At Helmer Computing, we're acutely aware that the network is the computer, and work to enhance your ability to use and interact with that computer. It's not enough that a system works: it needs to work every time, and in the same way. To that end, we're creating a whole series of network devices based on StrongBox Linux that take the uncertainty out of your computer environment. Starting with simple network services, we're branching out to make sure that all of your computer needs can be met in a simple, uncluttered, plug-and-play style. Currently completed StrongBox bundles are:
StrongBox LAMP deployment platform
Groupware bundle, including mail, contact management, etc.
Firewall, DNS, DHCP and basic network services
Network security monitoring and logging
Asterisk PBX systems
Gentoo-Based, and Knoppix-based desktop bundles
StrongBox is currently under very active development, and new bundles are coming out regularly. The beauty of the StrongBox system is that it can run on nearly any hardware, and depends only on the requirements of a particular application. From a single network card, $300 computer from a discount reseller, to $10,000 high-end servers, StrongBox-based services can move seamlessly between hardware platforms, using built in hardware auto-detection. And, built with the network in mind, large-scale deployments are easy to accomplish.
The basic StrongBox operating system is very stable, and integrates advanced change control into the system. This means that rolling back to earlier configurations is a breeze. Also, with automatic detection of software corruption and failures, systems have high tolerance for accidental or intentional damage to their software.
We believe that StrongBox represents a fundamental shift in computer design, towards creating computers that have a level of reliability and security equivalent to embedded systems, without sacrificing the flexibility of the standard computer model.
