Kudos, Credits, and Resources:
StrongBox is not just built by us.
It's a a collection of works by innumerable people. All that
we've done at Helmer Computing is put everything together into a
useable package, and written the pieces that manage configurations
and installations.
In no particular order:
The Linux kernel, “by”
Linus Torvalds, is currently being actively developed by hundreds of
developers. See www.kernel.org
for more details.
The Linux-vserver patches and the
util-vserver utilties are invaluable to being able to create
strongbox as it is today. See http://www.linux-vserver.org/
for details.
The reiserfs filesystem has proven
invaluable. See www.namesys.com
for details.
Thanks to Klaus Knopper for building
the Knoppix system, which has both served as inspiration, and a
resource for various pieces of software glue that make StrongBox as
flexible as it is today.
The free software foundation's gnu
utilities at www.gnu.org is
invaluable to any gnu/linux distribution.
The Gentoo Linux distribution, which is
used to build the core StrongBox OS, is absolutely invaluable to the
project: see www.gentoo.org.
The Debian distribution is the primary
platform for building StrongBox bundles, and is also invaluable in
their maintenance of certain packages, such as the cobalt Linux
kernel patchset, and various groupware packages. See www.debian.org
for details.
The mysql project, at www.mysql.com,
is of course useful. As is postgresql at www.postgres.org,
and the openldap project, at www.openldap.org.
And, particularly, thanks to people for
writing the glue projects that make my job so much easier. Things
like webcyradm, php, webmin, and the like are utterly indispensable
to me. I'm going to try and start listing all these projects here, as
I go, but there's so many. So, thanks to all the open source
developers out there who've built utilities that make this system
possible.
An incredible number of people have
written utilities that I'm using as part of the StrongBox system. I
really wish I could give them all credit here, but I don't have room.
On the StrongBox distribution CD, in with the sources and
documentation, you'll find much, much more information on this.
Thank you to all the beta-testers
who've been helping me out with this project. Thank you to all my
friends for offering me support and advice along the way.
Thanks to swivel for bearing a bunch of
my alpha testing.
And, lastly, thanks to my family, for
making this all possible, in many ways: money, education, and just
plain putting up with my crazy ideas.
Kudos everyone!
